Farming is the backbone of every country but nowadays many youngsters hesitate to enter this profession.

Why is this the case and what can be done to avoid it?

Some reasons why youngsters keep away from farming are:

- Stigma- Agriculture as a profession is undervalued in many societies as people tend to think those who engage in farming are illiterate and old- fashioned.

- Uncertainty and lack of profitability- farming is unattractive to young people because it is vulnerable to various environmental, economic, and social pressures.

- Availability of alternatives- unlike the past today's young people have a wide variety of career options to choose from according to their taste.

The attitude of people towards farming can be considerably altered through the following measures:

- More recognition and rewards will help remove the stigma surrounding this field and give it a better image

- Financial support from governments will help farmers overcome the volatility of the sector and consider it as a secure profession

- More efforts shoul be made to exploit technology to make farming easier and more profitable

- Farming should be an essential part of education so that young people are aware how dependent their lives are on this noble profession
